The June Orbit
big life changes, being a STAR, and obsessing over shrek
My masters is ending sooo soon, which is (to be honest) pretty terrifying. I keep having my recurring dream where I’m standing on stage and can’t remember my lines; something which happens to me consistently when I don’t feel ready for an inevitable change. I’ve had the best two years and I am really unsure what the hellllll I’m doing next (I have a few ideas but I don’t want to jinx anything yet) so at the moment my life is pretty much: frantically writing in the library and trying to decide where I’m going and what I’m doing after this ends. That being said, I’m also trying to enjoy summer. June was a month of slowly working my way through the second draft of my novel, a heatwave, literary agents visiting, a film shoot, friends starting to leave Norwich (</3) and also just having fun during my last few months here.
I also want to say a huuuuge thank you for all your support whilst I go through this kind of intense, transitionary time. I know you guys are currently existing on a meagre diet of mere monthly orbits, and I really am so grateful.
I was speaking to my dad the other day about trying to balance different kinds of writing, and he said: ‘you only have so many words in you at any given time.’ Which, at the moment, feels very true. I am literally so so so grateful for your support whilst my words are being all used up by my novel and dissertation - a special thank you my amazing paid subs who are really making this writing-time possible for me!!!!!
Here’s the link to subscribe and become a paid subscriber, but there really is no pressure at all!! I’m just so happy to have you here and be able to share all the things I’ve been loving this month with you!!! ⋆˚꩜。 On with the Orbit!!!!!! ⋆。꩜°✩
☆ FILMS ☆
I can’t really explain what took over me when I watched Shrek 1, 2 and 3 in the span of two days, but I remember feeling very, very strongly that Shrek 2 was probably the best film ever made. There was a two-week period where Puss in Boots was both my phone and laptop wallpaper but balance has been restored. It’s back to normal now.
The Rescue ★★★★½
Shrek 2 ★★★★★
Shrek ★★★½
Obsession ★★★★½
Shrek the Third ★★★
Love & Saucers ★★★½
The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring ★★★★★
Misery ★★★★
Platoon ★★★½
The Invite ★★★★½ (I absolutely loved this. I laughed and cried. Olivia Wilde is SO back)
And speaking of films: this month I was in my friend’s film, which was extremely fun.
☆ BOOKS ☆
I’ve spent all month slowly reading (and by ‘reading’ I mean listening to it on Audible lol) The Make Believe by Hannah Murray. I’ve been on my memoir hype after the literally life changing experience of reading Lena Dunham’s Famesick, and I don’t know what to read next.
If you have any recommendations, let me know. Memoirs I love include: Down the Drain by Julia Fox, The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher, Just Kids by Patti Smith, My Thoughts Exactly by Lily Allen, and I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy. I want something enlightening and potentially scandalous from a celebrity I love!!!
☆ LIFE ☆
Looking through my camera roll, I’m kind of surprised to see that a lot actually happened in June. I feel like I’ve just been sitting in the frankly disturbingly concrete underworld of the UEA library staring blankly at a computer, but actually, June looks like it was fun! Here’s some stuff that’s happened over the past month…
My friend told me that I needed to buy some Pyrite and put it above my doorframe, so we went to two different crystal shops to find it. I bought three pieces.
Yesterday on my walk home I saw this cute sign selling tomato plants for £1, so I bought one.
Went to visit my mum’s cousin (kind of my aunt??) and walked her dog on the beach with my friend!
One strange development this month is that I’ve started pinning my fringe back. I literally have no idea why this is, and I’ve been borderline obsessively attached to my fringe since getting it cut in when I was about fourteen, but for some reason at the moment I’m liking it pinned back. This is unprecedented news for me and I am deeply disturbed by this development lol.
Saw my friend in a play (she was amazing!!!)
Went to London to stay at my friend’s house which was so so so nice.
☆ FOOD ☆
One aspect of leaving Norwich that I do feel prepared for is new cafes and restaurants. I feel like I have absolutely rinsed every single place to eat/drink in this city and, whilst I love so many of them, I’m kind of bored. Here is the only photo of food I took this month, a plate of tomatoes at the pasta place (Yard) that I go to all the time…
For people visiting Norwich, here are my favourite places to eat:
Blue Joanna
The Steam Packet (tell the chef you know Sephy!!!)
Yard
Bun X
Cafe 33
The Kimchi
Brick Pizza
☆ MUSIC ☆
I looked at my most-played song this month and I am embarrassed to admit that it’s Accidentally in Love from the Shrek 2 soundtrack, so I think I’ll skip over music for this month lol.
☆ TV ☆
House of the Dragon (so happy this is back!!!)
Me and my housemates have been watching a lot of Stath Lets Flats
On a bit of an Alan Partridge hype at the moment (maybe because I’m pre-mourning Norwich)
