Olivia Wilde is back (!!!) and she has a highly divisive, Millennial core, Zoella-coded hairstyle. I am, within reason, pro-milkmaid braid, but tbh this was pushing it even for me. All I want to do is talk about films right now, so here’s a voicenote about my thoughts on The Invite, and Olivia Wilde’s cinematic comeback following the Don’t Worry Darling mess.
I LOVE it when a film is in conversation with the director’s life, and I feel like The Invite is speaking so much to her extremely public divorce (and us seeing her get served her divorce papers on stage!) Her framing of The Invite as a post-failure film is also really compelling to me - I love a comeback. I talk about it all in my voicenote! I hope you enjoy it!
